Andaluz is proud to host a workshop for birth professionals to help support families during a homebirth transport and cesarean. This is the second in a three-part homebirth cesarean series. Attendance in the first workshop is not required for this class.
Taught by: Courtney Jarecki and Laurie Mednick, CPM, LDM - authors of the upcoming book on Homebirth Cesarean for mothers and birthworkers.Homebirth Cesarean (HBC) is the name given to planned out-of-hospital births that end in a transfer to a hospital and a cesarean. From prenatal preparation, through labor and birth and finishing with postpartum care, this workshop for birth professionals shares information, insights and offers tools and strategies gathered from over 200 interviews with homebirth cesarean mothers, partners, midwives and birth professionals from around the world on: • What birth professionals can do to prepare clients who are reluctant to engage in the topic of cesarean birth • Building a foundation of trust and open communication in prenatal care • Assessing a client’s risk for suffering trauma during or after a homebirth cesarean • How to broach the transport conversation during labor and prepare the family to make the physical and emotional move to the hospital • Supporting the partner through a transport and cesarean • Tools for maintaining connection to mothers who are struggling mentally and emotionally during birth • How birth professionals can care for themselves through homebirth cesareans • Caring for the HBC mother and partner in the hospital and at home • Postpartum Mood Disorders (PMADs) and PTSD after a traumatic birth • Breastfeeding after cesarean • Wound management • The mother’s grieving process following an HBC • Barriers to mother and midwife/doula communication in the postpartum time • Feedback to the midwife and doula from the mother Saturday, May 3 9am – 4pm $100 per person $90 for OMC (Oregon Midwifery Council) members Seven (7) Oregon Midwifery Council CEUs available, pending approval CEUs available for additional $10 fee Group discounts available To register, please contact Courtney Jarecki, firstname.lastname@example.org Courtney Jarecki is an HBC mama, researcher, and author of the upcoming book on homebirth cesarean. In an effort to advance the conversation around what empowered birth means in our time, she is the co-founder and Executive Director of Homebirth Cesarean International (HBCI), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote healing and support for women and birth professionals. Prior to her own homebirth cesarean experience, Courtney worked as a childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula and was a homebirth midwifery apprentice. Laurie Perron Mednick is a licensed CPM in Oregon, and lives in Washington with her husband and three young boys. Laurie maintains a small homebirth practice with Nest Midwifery, and teaches childbirth and breastfeeding classes. Laurie is a contributing researcher and author to the homebirth cesarean book.
