Sonya Marie Horowitz was born in Oregon, but grew up in upstate New York as one of 10 children in a close knit blended family. Her interest in midwifery was sparked while attending the home birth of her godson many years ago. In 1998, after a year in college and 2 years living overseas, she moved to Portland to pursue her dream of becoming a midwife. She attended and graduated from Birthingway College of Midwifery, worked as a doula, and apprenticed at the school's birth service. In early 2002 she began working at Andaluz. Sonya Marie is married to Zachary. He is a great support to her. Sonya loves to garden and enjoys the outdoors. She and Zach welcomed baby Avri into their home in spring 2007. Sonya is currently on maternity leave from births and is doing the billing for Andaluz.
