2023 Year in Review

Do you love stats? We’ve got some data for you! 2023 was a great year at Andaluz, and we can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store!

There were 101 babies born at our Portland location!

50 males and 51 females took their first breaths under our roof.

Our vaginal birth rate was 96.52%, meaning only 3.48% of our clients needed a surgical birth, even after a hospital transfer.

Our transfer rate during labor continues to be low, and in line with the birth center model standard of care.

Transfers are never ideal, but they mean that our systems of ensuring safety for our clients is working!

The majority of the clients who came to Andaluz in 2023 with the hopes of a vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC) made their dream a reality!

Some degree of perineal tearing is normal and is typically experienced by 8 out 10 people who give birth. That means the average rate for intact perineum is only about 20%. Ours is almost double that!

Over half of our clients chose to give birth in one of our spacious birth tubs - and virtually 100% used the tubs for pain relief during labor even if they chose to deliver in a different position.

21 clients came back to us again to welcome another baby into their family.

51.5% of our 2023 clients were first time parents! You don't have to be an experience parent to have an empowering out-of-hospital birth experience!
