Certified Professional Midwife

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Graduate from approved Midwifery program

● Licensed to practice in Oregon and able to commute to Portland

● Aligned with out of hospital birth and midwifery-led care

● Current NRP & BLS certifications

● Experience as a primary midwife preferred but not required

DESCRIPTION:

The certified professional midwife (CPM) is responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care delivered to antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn clients.  The CPM performs physical exams; collects and documents data;  facilitates physiological labor, birth and emergency management;  conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations.


Participates in direct client care activities in rotation with other CNM(s) and CPM(s)

  • Adheres to the birth center model of care and philosophy of physiological birth, trauma-informed care, and informed consent

  • Adheres to birth center eligibility criteria for clients throughout antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. 

  • Provides comprehensive midwifery care and appropriate referrals

  • Provides competent and respectful care to all families regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or disabilities

  • Participates in once-monthly drills/ in-service

  • Participates in professional and community awareness activities 

  • Supervises the orientation and functioning of birth assistants

  • Responsible for delegated aspects of daily operation

  • Participates in a quality assurance program

  • All staff are responsible for the maintenance and care of the birth center which includes cleaning, sanitation, laundry, and equipment maintenance

SCHEDULE:

Clinic duties 10am-6pm two days per week, with rotating on-call periods shared between the midwifery team. Must be willing to be on-call every third weekend, and share call over major holidays.

This is a salaried position with health insurance benefits and PTO.

This position reports to the Directory of Midwifery.
